Defensive Handgun 1 Class in Adrian, MI

This course is one step beyond a CPL course. In this course the student will be introduced to handgun science and accuracy, tactical shooting positions, pistol manipulation under stress, shooting in a 360 degree environment, and shooting while moving. This is an 8 hour course spent entirely on the range. This is not an NRA course of instruction.

What to Expect In Our Class

Move and shoot.  Draw from concealment.  Deal with malfunctions.  We build upon skills learned in the CPL class.  Build muscle memory and learn new techniques.

What to Bring to Class

You will need a minimum of 400 rounds for your pistol. You will need to bring safety glasses and hearing protection (electronic prefered so you can hear range commands). You will need to wear seasonally appropriate clothing. Shirts should have a round collar to prevent the unauthorized access of brass into your shirt. All shooting ranges used by ATHG are outdoor and will take place rain or shine so depending on weather you may need rain gear. We do have pistols and gear to rent if you need.

  • Pistol in a self-defense caliber (.380ACP or larger)
  • 3 Magazines (5 recommended)
  • Holster (magazine holster recommended) No Shoulder Holsters!
  • An open mind
  • 400 rounds of ammunition
  • Cleaning kit

  • A second pistol and gear is optional (in the event your primary pistol has technical issues)


The student must be a current United States citizen and meets one of the three following;

  1. Posseses a current CPL license
  2. Is Active Duty Military or Active Full Time Law Enforcement Officer
  3. The student meets the criteria for a CPL in the State of Michigan and provides a letter of recommendation from their local Law Enforcement Agency attesting to the students good moral standing.


The class room portion will be held at the Tsutomuru Judo Dojo located at 2792 N. Adrian Hwy, Adrian, Mi. 49221. There is a link with a map on the registration page. The range portion will be held at a local range subject to change depending on class size and availability.
